“Water—Our Sacred Resource”, Scott Frazier, Monday, April 21, 5-6:30pm, Burke Mountain Room
Mr. Frazier is a Santee and enrolled Crow Tribal member. He is the Executive director for Native Waters/ Project Wet, a water conservation and education agency out of Bozeman, Montana. He will address the sacredness of water from an indigenous perspective as well as promote discourse about the relationship between natural science and personal health to the community. He will deliver a presentation on how to change perspectives about water for a future of conservation and respect of this most important resource. This event is supported by the LSC Social Sciences, Recreation Resource, and Natural Science Departments, as well as Students for Campus Conservation, the St. Johnsbury Food Co-op, and the Northwoods Stewardship Center.
Healthy Homes, Clean Waters, Association of Vermont Recyclers, Monday, April 21, 10am-12pm, Student Center
How do our household cleaning products end up in our rivers and lakes? Students explore this question in this interactive workshop, and learn about everyday household toxins, and how their improper disposal affects local water systems, wildlife and general health. Students experiment with “green cleaners” and learn how easy it is to make them at home. Event made possible through the NEK Waste Management District.

“Local Foods, Local Communities”, hosted by St. J Food Co-op at LSC, Tuesday, April 22, 10am – 2pm, Student Center
The St. J. Food Co-op and many volunteers are creating a ‘Local Foods, Local Communities’ interactive and tasty display that investigates the question “Where does your food come from?” Lyndon Institute students, Aramark, Cloud Path Farm, VT Department of Agriculture, VT Food Bank, Salvation Farm, and Rural Vermont will all be there sharing information, food, and engaging activities that explore the important health, economic, and environmental benefits of local foods.

This is an educational event about the pros and cons of wind and solar power, and how each operates. Informative posters, small scale solar kits and hands on activities will be on-hand, helping to educate students and public about wind or solar power as an alternative energy source, and to influence them about better ways to care for the environment.

Do gas prices have your pockets feeling a little light? Then you should do the math and you will see that bottled water costs more than double a gallon of gasoline. With free water coming from your tap it would behoove you to come and check out the more than free water event at Lyndon State College. The event will inform you of the dangers of bottled water as well as give you alternative methods of clean water consumption. There will be a few demonstrations to show you the different methods of water purification for all of you science folks. We hope to see you all down there.

Senior International Mountain Climbing School guide and prolific New England adventurer Bayard Russell will share highlights from some of his times in nature’s vertical places, both far and wide. This event is supported by the LSC Outing Club.

Help us bring paper back to life. You can help clean the environment and have fun doing it. Also, as you know, Mothers Day is coming soon—why not make her a card out of the paper you made while recycling? It will be a great time.
3rd Annual LSC Gets Trashed!, Wednesday, April 23, 9am-3pm, Between HAC and Wheelock
Come dig through piles of “trash” to see how much recyclable material LSC throws away. This event is exciting and tangible—you can feel, see, hear, smell, and well…hopefully we won’t be tasting the trash! See your friends, faculty, and staff get ‘down and dirty’ to promote recycling and sustainable living here on campus. It’s definitely messy, but don’t worry we’ll have plenty of rubbers for protection!! (Gloves that is…what were you thinking?)

Leave No Trace Trainer Course, April 21-22, Overnight, White Mtns
The Trainer Course is a vital component of the nationwide Leave No Trace program. During a two-day, overnight backcountry experience, participants receive introductory training in Leave No Trace skills and ethics. The Trainer Course assists the student participants in learning more about the seven principles of Leave No Trace and techniques for disseminating these low impact skills. These courses are designed for educators, guides, agency employees, and all those who frequent the backcountry. Successful graduates of the Trainer Course gain the skills to teach Leave No Trace techniques and ethics to their clients, friends and family. Pre-registration at LSC is required. To celebrate Earth Week the LSC Library is offering a display based on the video "Affluenza" which examines out-of-control consumerism in America. What is enough and how can we all learn to think rationally about it when we are inundated with daily messages that more is better?
