General Requirements
To ensure candidates are academically prepared for college level work, we require that candidates include the following college preparatory courses in their high school programs:
- 4 years of English
- 3 years of mathematics (algebra II recommended)
- 3-4 years of social science
- 2-3 years of laboratory science
- 2 years of foreign language (recommended)
All freshmen candidates for admissions are required to take either the SAT or ACT. The optional writing section of the ACT is required. Applicants who have already graduated from high school are not required to submit test scores, however a personal interview may be required. The College Entrance Examination Board (CEEB) Code for Lyndon State College is 3767.
Applicants who do not meet the normal admissions requirements may be admitted. Such a student will be limited to 12-14 credit hours for the first semester.
Requirements for First Year Students

- $36 application fee* payable to Lyndon State College
- Official high school transcript or official G.E.D. scores
- Senior year first marking period grades
- SAT or ACT scores
- One letter of recommendation
(from guidance counselor, teacher, etc.)
*Application fee is waived for graduates from Lyndon Institute.
Requirements for Early Admission/Accelerated Program Applicants
Qualified students who display exceptional ability and maturity, and have exhausted the educational opportunities at their high schools can enroll at Lyndon State College as high school seniors through Early Admissions. Under this program, students complete the equivalent of their senior year in high school as new students at LSC. Students should apply after completion of their junior year and must schedule an interview with an admissions representative.
The Accelerated Program is for qualified Vermont and northern New Hampshire seniors who wish to take a course or two at Lyndon, while still attending high school.
Early Admissions and Accelerated Program applicants must:
- Have the consent and cooperation of secondary school officials.
- Have completion of all application and admissions requirements (as listed above for Early Admissions), and course requirements as determined by the College.
Requirements for Home-Schooled Applicants
- Completed Application (please type or print)
- $36 application fee payable to Lyndon State College
- Proof of “Graduation*
- One letter of recommendation (from someone other than a family member)
*Proof of Graduation: We understand that home-schooled students may not have the traditional high school diploma.
Acceptable “Proofs of Graduation” include:
- Official General Education Development (GED) scores
- A Certificate of Completion of a home-study program if the program is recognized by your home state, or submit evidence of annual approval of your program as required within your home state (an official transcript of any course work taken at a local high school is also required).
- High School Diploma (some home-schooled students receive a diploma from their area secondary school.)
For Transfer students only: If a formerly home-schooled student has completed an associates degree and has met all entrance requirements, no proof of graduation is required.
Requirements for Nontraditional/Adult Applicants
If you have been away from formal education for some time and have not attempted college-level studies please submit the following:
- Completed application (please print or type)
- $36 application fee* made payable to Lyndon State College
- Official high school transcript, or official scores from high school equivalency exam (G.E.D.)
- One letter of recommendation from an employer or a person who is familiar with your motivation and work habits.
Undergraduate students may apply to begin their studies at Lyndon State for either the fall or spring semesters. Each student who applies to Lyndon is given a thorough, individual review. Factors considered in making admission decisions include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Official high school transcript or official scores from G.E.D. (including the rigor of the curriculum pursued and the grades achieved)
- Results from the SAT and/or ACT exams (all freshman applicants)
- The candidate's rank in class (freshman applicants, when available)
- Letters of recommendation
- Extracurricular activities, community service involvement
- Life or work experience
- and any other factors which help to determine the candidate's potential to be successful academically at Lyndon State College and to contribute positively to the Lyndon community as a whole.
Admissions Deposit
Once accepted, students are required to pay a $200 nonrefundable tuition deposit on or before May 1 for the fall semester and December 1 for the spring semester. After these dates, deposits will be accepted on a space-available basis. The deposit is credited toward the first semester’s bill.
If you will be living on-campus, an additional $100 housing deposit is required to reserve a residence hall room.
