Description: Bill Cotte Lecture: The late 19th and 20th centuries gave rise to a host of great Russian “nationalist” composers, whose music has entered the mainstream of the concert repertoire on a global scale—Tchaikovsky, Rachmaninov, Prokofiev and Shostakovich, just to mention a few. Their music speaks the very heart of the Russian people, with beauty, dignity and power. We will explore some of this wonderful legacy through its greatest interpreters in sight and sound during this three-part series.

Description: Tania Aebi cast off from the docks of South Street Seaport in lower Manhattan at the age of 18 and sailed 27,000 miles around the world, alone. Concerned about her lack of ambition, her father offered her this opportunity as an alternative to a college education, and she took him up on it. For the next two and a half years, with only a cat for company, she crossed the Caribbean, the South Pacific and Indian Oceans, the Red Sea, the Mediterranean, and the North Atlantic, stopping in 23 countries along the way.
